Composite Metal Deck consists of two main components: Metal Deck and Concrete.
The metal deck typically has some embossment patterns to the side and top of the deck at regular intervals, which allows the concrete to bond with the deck as the concrete cures.
MegaSPAN is different from the typical CMD (Composite Metal Deck) by two things:
- MegaSPAN: [ 8” (200mm) Metal deck ] + [ 2.5” (64mm) to 6” (152mm) ] = [ 10.5” (264mm) to 14” (355mm) ] VS typical CMD is almost half of this depth. This allows the MegaSPAN system to span up to 33’ (10m) clear span, and accordingly, this system is a Long Span Deck.
- MegaSPAN utilizes reinforced rebar in the flutes (ribs), which are spaced every 24” (610mm). The rebar size is a function of span and loading.
Structural Performance: Robust structural flooring system with exceptional finished product
Architectural Flexibility: Long clear span up to 33’ (10m)
Fire Rating: Tested assemblies for 1.5 & 2 hours unprotected (W/O Sheathing), best in class in North America
Can easily incorporate In-Floor Heating within the MegaSPAN system.
Less bulkheads compared to other systems like conventional CIP or Precast.
Savings: 45% Less Concrete, Rebar, and Temp shoring, which decreases schedule, increases productivity, and has many other indirect impacts on other structural elements due to its lighter weight.
Cost: Significant savings when compared to CIP conventional forming.
Simplicity: Easy installation with labeled bundles, precut/ predrilled panels, and clear instructions.
Fast Delivery: modern production equipment with ample capacity and planning.
Support: Engineering design, stamp, and provide support at every stage of the project
Quality product: Every order goes under an extensive QC procedure.
More Control: Any crew can install the system with minimum training and equipment.
MegaSPAN can be used with all types of structural framing: cold-formed steel, insulation concrete form (ICF), concrete, masonry, and steel construction; some of the applications are:
Residential (condos, apartments, LTC, retirements).
Hospitality (hotels, resorts, and motels).
Suspended garages.
Commercial (mezzanine, retail).
Educational (schools, institutions, universities).
Government (police stations, fire stations, others).
Direct:
Less Concrete, Rebar, and shoring when compared to solid slabs.
Doesn’t require sheathing to achieve fire rating.
Doesn’t require costly load distribution members.
Indirect:
Lower slab self-weight imposed on other structural elements.
Better connections and more simplified details
Positive impact on the project lateral resistant system due to light self-weight.

The Web Contact page has a “PROJECT FORM” which can be used to provide us with your project info and drawings. The form will be reviewed, and you will receive a reply or a call from our team to discuss and assist you with your project requirements.
Depending on your project location, MegaSPAN is sold through the authorized distribution network or directly through our Ontario Sales Center and Production Headquarters. Please contact us, and we will either provide you with a quote or direct you to one of our authorized distributors.
Depending on the project and the other system we are comparing the cost savings can vary from 5 to 50%.
Depending on the project complexity and crew experience, a reasonable average is 1,000 to 1,500 sqft per 8-hour shift for a crew of 4 members.
Canadian Panel Tech can provide a list of MegaSPAN experienced installers that will assist in the installation of your next project.
Eliminate Waste:
Cold-formed Steel has only 2% waste compared to 20% waste of wood construction.
Compress Schedule:
Fast track construction, especially when prefabricated walls, floors, and trusses.
Improve Quality:
Precise dimensions, modern manufacturing, and high-quality control.
Reduce Cost:
Lower construction insurance cost VS wood. Noncombustible construction with lower price compared to concrete.
Increase Efficiency:
BIM full integration: Design – drawings -manufacturing-fabrication
Depending on the project span and loading, cold-formed Steel is the best solution for your midrise construction project for the following reasons:
Up to 8 Storeys is mostly achievable.
Between 9 to 12 Storeys is achievable depending on span and loading.
More than 12 Storeys is achievable however challenging.
Reduced project schedule
High strength-to-weight ratio
Significant reduction in construction insurance cost
Condo and apartment buildings.
Retirement and LTC residences.
Hotels and motels.
Townhomes, stacked townhomes, and residential homes.
Commercial and educational projects.
Government and administration buildings.
Depending on the project location: Either through one of our distributors or directly through our open public store in Bolton, ON. Please send your details and product requirements to the given: contact@cpt-group.ca.
Steel is noncombustible which means it doesn’t help fire spread. It’s strong and has the best strength-to-weight ratio among all building materials; it’s not susceptible to decay or termite attack, and it’s moisture resistant, so it will not shrink, rot, or warp in adverse weather conditions.
